De-Stress With MamaSoul

DE-STRESS WITH MAMASOUL

MamaSoul is a yoga studio on JETSWEAT, but did you know they also support women's mental health, particularly prenatal and postpartum depression and anxiety. Stress is high right now for many people, and JETSWEAT recognizes how interlinked physical and mental health are. Together we can support the health of women mentally and physically. Below are 3 techniques Mama Soul can help you work on to de-stress your body.

1. Meditation

“When we sit with ourselves and let the uncomfortable in, overtime we develop a different relationship with it, we can see how the practice of meditation works if you keep showing up for it.”

— Lauren Magarelli, MamaSoul Yoga Instructor

In her MamaSoul mediation series, instructor Kathryn Leary, walks you through how to position your mind and body for a meditation exercise.

Don’t forget to check out the popular MamaSoul Grounding Meditation Class on JETSWEAT.

2. Breathing

“...people with anxieties or other fear-based conditions typically will breathe way too much. So what happens when you breathe that much is you're constantly putting yourself into a state of stress...But by breathing slowly...you're allowing more air into your lungs and your body immediately switches to a relaxed state.”

Excerpt from NPR interview with James Nestor, author of Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art

Our MamaSoul yogi, Melissa French, takes you through a 4 minute exercise in alternate side nostril breathing. “When we individually breath into a lung it will give us that courage, it will release the grief.” This is especially important when pregnant, because even in the first trimester the diaphragm can rise by as much as 1.5 inches.

3. Improved Circulation

“During pregnancy, the body produces approximately 50% more blood and body fluids to meet the needs of the developing baby. Swelling is a normal part of pregnancy that is caused by this additional blood and fluid. Normal swelling, which is also called edema, is experienced in the hands, face, legs, ankles, and feet.” American Pregnancy Association

Melissa takes you through a 4 minute exercise on Mama Soul, to reduce the swelling in your legs, and calm your mind.
