Journaling for Wellness

Reflection and Your Wellness Journey

By: Madyson Callion

An important part of our wellness journey is reflection. Reflecting on your year so far can help you find important aspects of how you see yourself and your emotions and reactions to your surroundings.

A great way to do this is by journaling. Journaling is not always easy and can be time consuming, but it is very useful over time during one's wellness journey.

The greatest part about journaling is there’s no right way to do it. How you structure your journal, how frequently you journal, and what’s in it is entirely up to you. It is important to think of your journal as a friend that’s always there no matter what. That way you can explore the many parts of yourself and your environment simply by being able to write them out. Additionally, journaling can also give you a visualization on how far you’ve come in your journey and what you still need to improve on. Going back to the idea of your journal as your friend, it also exists as a friend that doesn’t judge but just repeats back to you your own words and feelings. This allows you to create your own associations and conclusions without external pressure.

If you’re concerned that you’re not journaling enough, leave your mind at ease. It’s important to know that the frequency is your choice. It will always be there when you need it, so don’t feel pressured to journal every day. When you feel yourself needing a second of reflection, write in your journal.

What’s in your journal can be anything on your mind. One thing so many people love about journaling is that there’s no length requirement. What you feel could be as simple as a sentence or even a word. If it has significance to you, it’s significant enough.

Journaling is a great way to have time for yourself and reflection. Meditating before journaling is also a great way to put your mind at ease before jumping in. It gives you the opportunity to slow your mind a little and prepare for reflection. If you want to find meditation resources, check out the meditation classes we have on JETSWEAT
